Let's Talk: Visual Art and Activism | Alumni Panel Discussion
On February 28, over 130 alumni, students and friends gathered at the SVA Theatre for Let's Talk: Visual Art and Activism, a discussion with five alumni on the intersections of art, politics and activism. Panelists discussed ways, as artists and designers, they have tried to incorporate political and social issues into their work and took several questions from the audience. A recording of the discussion is now available on YouTube, and you can view photos from the event here

SVA Alumni Bowl-A-Rama in San Francisco
On March 8, San Francisco-based alumni gathered for cocktails and bowling at Lucky Strike. Alumni mixed and mingled while partaking in some friendly competition. Check out photos here

After School Special: Alumni Film and Animation Festival Open Call for Submissions

SVA's After School Special, an alumni film and animation festival, wants to feature your work in 2017! SVA alumni are encouraged to submit films, videos, commercials, music videos, webisodes, experimental films and other cinematic content to be considered for inclusion. The festival will take place Friday, September 15 – Sunday, September 17, at the SVA Theatre.


To submit your work, fill out an online submission form. Completed submission forms and content must be received by 11:59pm ET on Friday, April 28.

Since 1990, the Dusty Festival has been one of the country’s foremost events to discover exceptional new talent in film and animation. The 28th Dusty Film & Animation Festival will take place Friday, May 5 – Monday, May 8.

This year, three 
distinguished alumni will be presented with the 2017 Dusty Outstanding Alumni Award. In the 
animation category, producers and founders of Titmouse, Shannon Prynoski (BFA 1994 Film and Video),Venture Bros., Niko and the Sword of Light (Amazon original), Nerdland; and Chris Prynoski (BFA 1994 Animation), Motorcity, Nerdland, Metalocalypse. In the film category, Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino (BFA 1990 Film and Video), Up, LOST, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The awards will be presented on Monday, May 8, at 6:30pm.

Alumni Benefit: SVA Portfolios

SVA alumni are invited to join SVA Portfolios, an exclusive and free network for students, alumni and faculty members offered through a partnership with Behance. SVA Portfolios allows members of the SVA community to create an online profile and multimedia gallery of projects for others to view and share. The projects are viewable on the Behance network as well as on SVA Portfolios, giving users significant exposure. 

As part of an update to the Alumni Affairs and Development webpages, the Alumni Websites page will be phased out. If your website is currently listed there, we encourage you to sign up for SVA Portfolios as an alternative way to get your work work seen.

Alumni Resource Corner: Visual Arts Journal

Keep an eye out for the spring 2017 issue of the Visual Arts Journal, hitting mailboxes later this month. In this issue, the Journal talks to members of the SVA community pursuing careers in the arts while raising families, as well as four alumni living and working in Tokyo. Plus, an interview with alumnus Peter Svarzbein (MFA 2011 Photography, Video and Related Media), an artist-politician working to reconnect El Paso and Juarez. Stay tuned!

Giveaway: Whitney Biennial Tour

SVA alumni are invited to join Alumni Affairs on a private tour of the 2017 Whtiney Biennial on Monday, April 17, at 6:30pm.

Space on the tour is extremely limited. Alumni will be able to reserve their spot starting at noon on Friday, April 7. We will send reservation instructions via email. Stay tuned for more information!
